[TRANS] Going to performance scene of Indonesian girl group, Cherrybelle

AsianToday’s Jakarta-based reporter Kim Donggi covers Indonesia’s most popular girl group nowadays, Cherrybelle, together with TV Chosun’s PD.

TV Chosun’s PD, Choi Joon-sung, arrived in Indonesia 9 days ago and went to Semarang in the next morning. Choi PD seeks to know about young people who strive to be singers, with focus on their management system as entertainers. A lot of conversation was done especially with Cherrybelle, the most popular group among young people in Indonesia.

That day, Cherrybelle arrived at Semarang airport. The number of fans waiting for them proved that they are popular. The fans were also flocking into the lobby of Novotel, creating quite a chaos. Their performance started at 7.00 PM. With more than 10,000 people gathered to see them, Cherrybelle immediately took the stage, and after more than one hour, finished the performance successfully.

Cherrybelle’s “Cherry” means sweet like a cherry and “Belle” means beautiful in French. In particular, they look up to South Korea’s Girls Generation as a girl group. They even have 9 members, same with Girls Generation. Their agency promoted the recruitment through internet and Blackberry message. The members now were selected from 200 candidates. Nowadays, Indonesia is being swept by the excitement of K-Pop and many of young people are attracted to try to be trainee, then singers just like in South Korea. The Hallyu Wave is really felt in Southeast Asia.

In this coming June, Cherrybelle is planning to to perform in front of Indonesian workers in South Korea.
